Delta’s Hydra Energy
created hydrogen–diesel co-combustion conversion technology that can reduce the carbon emissions of current diesel engines by up to 40 percent. With interns drawn from the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University, Mitacs provided access to niche talent (and funding support) to help move the technology forward.
Prince Edward Island’s BIOVECTRA
recently expanded its capabilities into mRNA/pDNA vaccines and therapeutics, which have shown promise as the next generation of patient care in pharmaceuticals. A Mitacs grant enabled the firm to hire four graduate students as interns — a unique opportunity for these students to help advance development of important technology and gain hands-on experience in specialized labs.
“Thanks to the Mitacs Accelerate Entrepreneur program, I took a leap of faith to continue pursuing Blue Lion Labs after my PhD. This has allowed us to withstand the global pandemic, find additional pre-seed funding through Next Canada, and participate in a global aquaculture accelerator called HATCH.”
Jason Deglint
CEO, Blue Lion Labs
“Mitacs was fundamental in helping us develop QKI. It is very difficult to find skilled labour in this sector. The Accelerate program gave us access to the talent we desperately needed.”
